Microsoft MP3 fine overturned
08/07/07 – A fine imposed on Microsoft for infringing music patents has been dropped by a US district court. The Window's manufacturer had been ordered to pay Alcatel-Lucent $1.52bn (£777m) after it was ruled that Microsoft's Media Player infringed on two Alcatel patents.
Google could face further court woe following Belgian ruling
14/02/07 - A court in Belgium has ruled that Google's news service breaches copyright and this could lead to further rulings against the search engine in Europe. The court ruled that Google News was breaking copyright law by showing excerpts of Belgian news articles.
Apple to take on Internet Explorer
12/06/07 – Microsoft faces a challenge to the dominance of its web browser, Internet Explorer, as Apple has launched a Windows version of its web browser Safari. Apple hopes that it will be able to compete with both Microsoft's product and Mozilla's Firefox.
The decision was announced by Apple chief executive Steve Jobs who said the company was looking for a 4.9% expansion of Safari's market share.
