Okay so now I am VERY confused :D

I thought I had transfered the fergs.net domain to you!! I sent you an authorization code and my account suddenly had fergs.net included in it, so I presumed it had happened. I do want for you to have it so just tell me how :D

I can go to joker and change the records as you suggest but moving to you is preferable :D

Okay I think everything is now with you and that I have finally escaped from Joker. I'm not 100% sure of this as there is a distinct lack of confirmation from everyone.

Now I'm back to where I started from. I need to know the Outlook 2003 settings for accessing IMAP mail for test@fergs.net

I currently try with the following

Your name : test
email address: test@fergs.net
incoming mail server: mail.fergs.net
Outgoing mail server: mail.fergs.net
User name: test@fergs.net
password: the password I've set against test@fergs.net

I have ticked "log on using SPA"

When I try and send and receive I get
Task 'mail.fergs.net (1): Folder:Inbox Check for new mail.' reported error (0x800CCC0E) : 'Outlook is unable to download folder Inbox from the IMAP e-mail server for account mail.fergs.net (1). Error: Unable to connect to the server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

So what am I doing wrong ?!

I have taken the default settings and not changed anything in the "more settings" area. This means I have not ticked "my outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication". I also have incoming server on port 143, and outgoing server on 25. Neither of these is ticked for encrypted SSL.

My wife says

"I can get mails in and send mails out today but everytime I try to act on my folders (file, purge etc) it tells me I need to be connected and I’m not. Arrgghhh. Happened a few times over the last few days. No idea how to get connected..switching outlook off/on does not help."

Even more strange this morning.

Nothing has changed in the set up from yesterday,

My wife's IMAP set up gets

Task 'Checking for new mail in subscribed folders on jean@fergs.net.' reported error (0x8004DF0B) : 'Outlook is unable to download folder (null) from the IMAP e-mail server for account jean@fergs.net. Error: The connection to the server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

as an error message when we try and send/receive.

The other email address, with exactly the same settings sends and receives perfectly well. If I go in to the jean@fergs.net one on webmail here everything is accessible.

Help !!

I had a look on the server side every thing seems fine jean@fergs.net is loging in and out ok only thing I can think of is somthing on the outlookside. try using the pop3 mail service in outlook and download all the emails to outlook see if you are getting eny error.

Okay a POP3 version of the account downloads all the emails.

I have two versions of the IMAP set up now for jean@fergs.net. Neither work. Error message as in previous posts above. If I try and move an email to one of the IMAP folders I get a pop up error message which says "Can't move the items. The connection to the server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action"

I have now set up a second Outlook IMAP for the ian@fergs.net using the same parameters as the second one that fails for jean. It instantly works, showing all folders and in box etc.

I have set up a totally new user as jean2@fergs.net. I then changed the failing IMAP to point to it and it instantly saw it and showed the emails/folders for the it.

There is something wrong/different with the set up for jean@fergs.net which must be stopping the connection to the IMAP folder.

I am hugely nervous at playing with this set up as the folders contained within the jean email address are the only copies we have of some "must not be lost" emails.

Over to you !!
