More than 120m Europeans online

05/06/07 – A report has revealed that over 122m Europeans aged 15 and above are using the internet every day, either at home, in school or at work. On average Europeans access the web 16 days in every month and will spend 24 hours viewing more than 2,000 pages in that month according to the study by comScore.
The country with greatest net penetration is Holland, 83% of the country is online, and Russia is the nation with the lowest, only 11% are online.

comScore polled residents of 16 countries and found that 221m people across those states are online each month.

The country with the biggest online population is Germany with 32.5m net users aged 15 and above.

Net users in the UK were shown to be the most active in study spending more than 34.4 hours online each month, at peak times more than 21.8m people will be online together at the same time.

Greater access to broadband services was given as a factor for the increased internet activity in the UK

Bob Ivins, managing director of comScore Europe, said: "Increased net usage is tied to broadband roll-out. The UK is an example of a country whose net usage has increased dramatically as broadband has reached more people."

In Europe the average internet penetration was 40% of the population aged 15 and above accessing the net, only in Spain (39%), Italy (36%) and Russia (11%) did it fall below the average.

"While the study reflects average net usage and penetration, 20% of users account for 60% of usage, with some people spending hundreds of hours online each month," Ivins continued.
